The case began on January 7, 2026, when a 63 year old worker was found unresponsive inside a tanker trailer he had been inspecting at the company's site along Interstate 37. Corpus Christi Fire Department hazmat and rescue crews responded after the man went unaccounted for, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified by the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office as Juan Antonio Garza Jr. Local investigators found no evidence of foul play and classified the death as an industrial accident.
OSHA's subsequent inspection determined that FleetPride had failed to implement a required confined space program, an omission regulators say was central to the incident. The agency also identified gaps in the company's respiratory protection program and found workers were exposed to electrical hazards at the site. Combined, the violations carry a proposed penalty of $264,380.
FleetPride now has 15 business days from receipt of the citations to pay the penalties, request an informal conference with OSHA's Area Director, or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
