The Reunion

About 10 years ago I located Chuck Anger who by that time had retired from the Air Force, gained an advanced education and had taught in the college system in Fl before retiring a second time after his military retirement.

Chuck and I have remained friends over the years with phone calls and cards from time to time.

In December of 2009 Chuck’s wife Hilda passed away after a long battle with cancer. Since that time I have tried to call Chuck more frequently to check on him. On one occasion when I called him he seem very depressed so after I finished talking with Chuck, I decided to see if I could get in touch with Kaye Stephens who also lives in Fl and see if I could get Kaye to give Chuck a call. I thought hearing from Kaye might just help lift his spirits. I did an internet search and found a flier online where Kaye was doing “Bob Hope....and me” A Tribute to all Veterans. As you can see at the bottom of the flier it says “Call Gerry” if you have questions. So, I called Gerry and told her what I was trying to do and I ask her if I could speak with Kaye. Gerry said she was not allowed to give out Kaye’s phone number, but she would pass along my request.

Later that afternoon I received a phone call from Chuck and he was so excited that he could hardly talk. He said, “Bob, guess who just called me” and I said I don’t know, who? Kaye Stevens he exclaimed!

Yes, Kaye Stevens the famous entertainer now minister had taken a few minutes out of her busy schedule to call someone, that she had only meet briefly 40 years ago, to say hello and give him a word of encouragement. Now to me that’s greatness at its best.

Later I talked with Kaye and thanked her for her kindness.  I made copy of the audio tape of the interviews in Ubon Thailand and sent it to Kaye.

We lost one of the “Good Gals” on December 28, 2011. You will be missed. While we are saddened at your departure, we know you are in Heaven singing for the Master. God Bless.
